The Cumberland Vampire

The Cumberland Vampire was from Rhode Island and the vampires name was Abigail Staples. She had supposedly died of consumption in 1796 at the age of 23. This case is not part of the New England vampire panic that included that famous one, Mercy Brown? I think that was the name. The case of Abigail is legitimately real! After Abigail died her sister Lavinia began to fall ill. She was sick with fever at times but only when sleeping. She would call out her sister’s name and even said she saw a shadowy figure. In those days the whale bone corsets could have starved your brain of oxygen. I guarantee I would not strap myself into one! Anyway, that wasn’t the case. She was actually being attacked but not by her sister.

So Abigail’s father and Lavinia’s husband both named Stephen-went to the Cumberland town meeting and asked to dig up Abigail. The town didn’t want to do it but said they would allow it as long as she was reburied properly.

Well hold onto your pantaloons because this is horrific! The father and son in law opened up the grave. The horror was pure insanity! Abigail had been turned into a vampire but wasn’t the one attacking Lavinia. When the grave was opened it was at night. When they got there the dirt was very loose and she wasn’t as deep as when she was first buried. The insane part is there was no Abigail! They felt a high energy coming from up behind them, there stood Abigail with blood coming from her mouth and her neck. Not a lot but enough to be easily seen. On her finger was this ring. The ring was not hers or at least she wasn’t buried with it. Lavinia’s husband ran from the cemetery. Her father left and never spoke of it again except to pay with the ring on her finger which was removed the following day. The father believed she had been married to a male vampire and the ring was her wedding ring. It is true? We can only guess but the ring was certainly on her finger and her new home was a mausoleum. In the day they reburied her she was placed in an unmarked grave at Staples family plot (Rhode Island Historical Cemetery Cumberland #17), in an unmarked grave. It still gets stranger!

Almost two years to the day when Abigail was reburied she was dug up again! There are no records of the name of who did it but, she wasn’t there! She was gone. So somewhere in this world she walks among us.

This ring was kept by her father. I don’t know why. In that day they wanted nothing to do with this type of thing. This ended up at auction and a lady I know who owns a bookstore bought it. She lived up in Rhode Island and I got it from her. She’s not into the paranormal and got it for me. I go up to her bookstore or go talk to her. I would also see Al B there. This is the guy who did all the Montauk stuff. Although he had a great PR person because I know my experiences would blow your skirt up! She isn’t into the paranormal but more into government conspiracy theories. She was a great investigator. So where am I? Anyway let me wrap this on up.

The ring is a very small size and it is an antique from early Victorian times. The ring holds an extreme powerful vampire power like nothing I felt before. It is all that a vampire is and what they can give you minus the crack feeling. Blood is like crack and why I tell people not to mess with sanguine, EVER! You will find yourself on Vamp Skid row sucking on hookers and rats. No one wants that. No worries with this but if you are an empathic person you are going to feel this one BIG TIME! You can live as a vampire with this ring. I believe it’s rolled gold. You only need to possess it and wear it on a chain if you can’t wear on a finger. You must wear it on a chain or your finger for changes. You must wear for 32 days. If you want sanguine you need to wear for 62 days. You may take it off during a shower or while sleeping. If you do take it off you need to have it close to you.
